Marc Guehi will cost ‘superstar money’Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish insists it would take ‘superstar money’ to prise Marc Guehi away from Selhurst Park.

Newcastle are reported to have had two bids for the England defender turned down.

It is understood that Palace want £65m to even consider a deal.

“If you want a superstar player, you’ve got to pay superstar money,” Parish told Sky Sports.

“This is a player we love a lot. If we start the season with him, we’ll be a better team.

“We’re nowhere near the point where we need to make a decision.

“We love having him at the club and we would love to keep him at the club. So if somebody wants to make that otherwise, they have got to make it really difficult for us. At the moment, that’s not the situation we’re in.”

Guehi is expected to start Palace’s Premier League opener away to Brentford on Saturday.

Parish added: “Marc Guehi is as decent a human being and a footballer as you could ever possibly hope to meet.

“Marc is absolutely loyal to Crystal Palace. Marc wants to progress his career, of course he does and if the right opportunity is there and it’s right for us, I think it’s something that he might be interested in. But he’s certainly not putting any pressure on the club whatsoever.”

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, he said: “Matthijs de Ligt can reach his potential in the Premier League, he is a player who suits the division. He is strong, powerful and it helps that Erik ten Hag knows him.

“De Ligt was flying at Ajax when Ten Hag was there and one of the best players in Holland. The move to Juventus didn’t work and his career stalled at Bayern because they might not think he is good enough on the ball.
