Wimbledon finalist Barbora Krejcikova probably won’t enjoy the backing of Novak Djokovic fans when she steps out on Centre Court today. In a final that few envisaged, the Czech will take on Jasmine Paolini in a clash that will guarantee a first-time at SW19.
The pair have capitalised on the draw being blown wide open with a number of top-name stars falling by the wayside, but Krejcikova’s feat is made more remarkable given her tournament build-up.
The 31st seed had only won three matches in five months before the tournament began, amid struggles with illness and injury.

The 28-year-old has proven popular with fans though, and regularly engages her audience on social media. On Friday, she held an impromptu ‘question and answer’ session on X, and duly upset Serbian tennis fans with one of her answers.
Amid suggestions from followers, she agreed to respond to questions, writing: “We should keep this tradition going as it worked last time, right? Send me the questions. I will answer them after my practice.”
She may have regretted her promise, with @elyfayz_ immediately wanting her opinion on the now infamous ‘GOAT’ debate. “Rafa, Novak or Roger? Who’s your favourite and why?”

Krejcikova, whose maiden Slam title came at the 2021 French Open, then revealed she was torn between the two of the icons. And notably, 23-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic wasn’t one of them.
“Rafa and Roger. Don’t make me choose,” she replied, before outlining her favourite qualities of the pair. “I love Roger’s grace and Rafa’s fighting spirit.”
Djokovic’s fan base is notoriously passionate and defensive about their man being disrespected. And sure enough, Krejcikova was soon warned that a flood discontent soon heading her way.

“Nole Fam gonna get you,” said @gio_17x, while @ZAN_93 warned “Crybaby Djokovic fans coming for you Barbora. Please stay safe.” And sure enough, the negative responses duly flew in.
But @v2Maverick stuck up for the Czech, arguing: “It’s ridiculous and embarrassing to see so many insecure people in the comments. I’m saying this as a fan of Novak. Sorry Barbora, not all of us are like that.”
