Shane Lowry was left gobsmacked after a reporter admitted she didn’t know who Oasis are during an interview ahead of this week’s action at East Lake.

Lowry is in Georgia to compete at the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship, but it was his encounter with American broadcaster Ali Mac that left him looking back in anger.

The Irishman had been asked by Mac if he could go for a drink with any celebrity or famous person to pick their brains and have a chat, who would he pick?

Barely even stopping to think about the question, Lowry blurted out his answer, with the 37-year-old replying: “I’d love to have a drink with Oasis!”

Lowry then proceeded to ask the rather confused-looking interviewer if she knew who the Britpop band actually were.

The stone-cold look on Mac’s face answered Lowry’s question for him, with the golf ace perplexed at her response.

Lowry continued: “You don’t know who Oasis are? Oh my gosh, you’re obviously way younger than me.

“This is the biggest news ever. You need to look up Oasis… blasphemy.”

The reporter took it in good humour though, with Mac joking: “I just ruined this whole interview. I’m so sorry.”

Lowry did issue some clear instructions to the media personality, insisting Mac looked up who Oasis were immediately after the interview was over.

Mac, clearly a woman of her word, did just that, with the American replying to Lowry’s X post saying: “Me right now,” accompanied by a screenshot of her listening to Wonderwall.

Lowry, like most of the Oasis-loving world, will likely be glued to his phone on Saturday morning when tickets for the much-anticipated reunion go on sale.

At the moment though, the No.32 ranked player is currently half the world away getting ready for the season-ending Tour Championship.

Ahead of the contest, Lowry said: “It’s almost embarrassing that I haven’t been here [before],

“It’s always a goal at the start of the year and, thankfully, this year I got to achieve it.”

He continued: “I give shots to my friends every day at home, but my friends are not Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

“I think, yeah, it is new, but a good start the first day and you’re back in the tournament … in my head I’m seeing it as like a five-round event that I’ve got three-under the first round and I’m seven back of the leader and I need to kind of pick away at that over the four days and see where it leaves me on Sunday.”
