Clubs up and down the country will be aiming to use the transfer market to improve their squads before the new season gets underway. Manchester United and Chelsea have already welcomed a host of new faces, with the Red Devils announcing their latest capture on Thursday.

United managed to pull off the statement signing of teenage defender Leny Yoro in spite of competition from Real Madrid and Liverpool. They are reportedly close to finalising yet another deal after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already signed five new players ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign. Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Renato Veiga have all joined the Blues for a combined total of £65.4m.

Everton were also heavily linked with the 22-year-old, who scored 12 goals in the Championship last season.

It is said that wages could prove difficult, though, with Kante tied down to Al-Ittihad for another two years on a reported £86.2m per season.

Ugarte is represented by Jorge Mendes, who is also the agent of Leny Yoro and has a long-term relationship with United after orchestrating deals for several of his past and present clients.

It is said that Ugarte is open to joining United in spite of their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

However, the Red Devils are yet to agree a transfer fee with discussions at club level thought to be ongoing.
