Lewis Hamilton has refuted suggestions that he might be having second thoughts about switching Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the season amid the W15 car’s recent resurgence. Mercedes have shown improvement after introducing a number of upgrades, with Hamilton achieving his first podium finish of 2024 in last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Prior to that, the seven-time world champion hadn’t finished higher than P4 in his past 13 races while being consistently out-qualified by team-mate George Russell.

Hamilton’s start of the current campaign was his worst ever, crossing the line no higher than seventh in the opening five races.

The Silver Arrows have helped Hamilton win six of his seven world titles and become the first-ever driver to record over 100 pole positions and Grand Prix triumphs after signing him from McLaren in 2013.

But in February, he announced that he would be leaving Mercedes for rivals Ferrari in a blockbuster move, penning a multi-year contract.

Ferrari have suffered struggles of their own in recent weeks, though, following victories for Carlos Sainz in Melbourne and Charles Leclerc in Monaco.

A double DNF in Montreal was followed by fifth and sixth-place finishes behind Hamilton and Russell in third and fourth.

However, Hamilton insisted he had no regrets about his decision to switch to the Scuderia, responding “no, not at all” to an enquiry into whether that was the case.

“Firstly, I love Mercedes. I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13, and I’ll always be a fan and supporter of Mercedes,” the Brit continued.

“And my job this year, right now, is to work as hard as I can with the crew that I have, with the people back at the factory, to try and move and develop the car in the right direction.

“And so ultimately, whatever course and trajectory the team is on for next year, for example, there are things that I’ve hopefully been a part of and be proud of being a part of.”

Hamilton also sent Ferrari his backing after recent difficulties on the track, insisting he believes they are progressing alongside Mercedes.

“My job will start next year at the other team, who I think are doing a great job. I think they’ve had a couple of difficult races, but let’s not forget they had a race win in Monaco.

“I can’t tell you what is wrong with their car and why they are in the position they’re in today, but they did bring an upgrade here, and I think they are definitely progressing.

“But it doesn’t make me second guess my decision at all.”
