Dustin Johnson openly declared he harbours no ill feelings towards the PGA Tour despite his high-profile switch to the controversial LIV Golf circuit. The 40-year-old golf star joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour last year.
At the time, he acknowledged that his lucrative move, which reportedly netted him a cool £100million, would also cost him a spot in the Ryder Cup. Yet, with whispers of a monumental £1.18bn deal to unite the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and LIV Golf almost being agreed, Johnson is set to be one of the marquee players to compete at the Open on July 18.
Amidst the tension between LIV Golf defectors and PGA loyalists, Johnson has maintained a diplomatic stance, expressing no bitterness towards his former tour.
In an interview with Haute Time, Johnson said: “It’s been cool to do something different. I was on the Tour for 15 years, and I love everything it did for me – I always have and still do.
“But it is also pretty cool to start something completely new and it’s more of a global tour, where you play in places around the world. I am definitely travelling more with LIV Golf.
“I think that will continue to be bigger within the next few years – we aren’t even two years in yet.” He added: “I still want to compete at a very high level. I am not getting any younger, I have to work harder than I did before to keep myself in good form, but I still feel great.
“Actually, my game is very close to being back to where it was when I was competing and having the chance to win every week. I feel like I have a lot of really good golf left in me. Major championships are still very important to me.”

These sentiments echo his parting message to the PGA Tour, where he underscored that joining LIV Golf was driven by the prospect of better financial security for his family and more quality time with them, reports the Mirror.
Shortly after his departure from the PGA Tour, he said: “I thought it was best for me and my family. I resign my membership of the PGA Tour. What the consequences are going to be I can’t comment on how the Tour’s going to handle it.
“I can’t answer for the majors but hopefully they’re going to allow us to play.
“Obviously I’m exempt for the majors so I plan on playing there unless I hear otherwise.”
