Donald Trump

Donald Trump, an avid golf enthusiast and player, may find his 17-year-old granddaughter Kai outshining him on the green. The teenager, who made a notable appearance at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee on Wednesday, has already bagged significant tournament victories.

During the first televised presidential debate on CNN with rival Joe Biden, Trump boasted of his own golfing prowess, stating he had “won two club championships – not even senior – two regular club championships”. He said: “To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way and I do it. He doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards. He challenged me to a golf match – he can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”

The former US President, 78, claims to have a single-digit handicap, even reaching as low as 2.5. However, his golfing skills have often been marred by accusations of cheating. Trump has also shared the course with the likes of Tiger Woods, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Jack Nicklaus. Yet, his granddaughter Kai might just be the best golfer in the family.

Last year, at the prestigious Trump International in West Palm Beach, Florida, former President Trump was all smiles, sporting his iconic MAGA hat as he posed next to Kai, trophy in hand. The young golf sensation took to Instagram to share her triumph, captioning the snapshot: “Over the weekend I won the Women’s Club Championship @trumpgolfpalmbeach!

“Great competition from some impressive players. I shot even both days and won both matches. Very proud of my game and where it’s heading but there is always room for improvement. I would like to thank my parents, family and the amazing team at @trumpgolf.”

Kai didn’t stop there; she also posted clips of her stellar performance, with drives, chips, and putts that were nothing short of spectacular. Her social media is brimming with hints that this might just be the beginning of a glittering array of trophies.

Standing tall at 5ft 8ins, Kai who is the daughter of Donald Jr and his former spouse Vanessa, boasts of being a part of Callaway Next, which touts itself as “the next generation of Callaway Tour Pros.” With access to Trump’s vast array of golf courses, Kai has been perfecting her skills and trick shots.

Her golfing prowess is undeniable, especially given her age, with a longest drive of 275 yards – a figure surpassed by only 14 players on the LPGA tour in 2023. Kai’s list of golfing acquaintances reads like a who’s who of the sport, having played alongside ardent Trump supporter and two-time major winner DeChambeau, Swedish pro Daniela Holmqvist, and world long-drive champion Kyle Berkshire twice over, among others. She’s even rubbed shoulders with the likes of Woods, Johnson and Patrick Reed.

She also joined forces with Trump, becoming part of a Pro-Am team ahead of the contentious LIV Golf tournament at Trump’s Doral course in Florida. Kai played alongside Eric Trump, Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka and a supporting cast of Secret Service agents.

The group scored 9-under, which was tied for the lowest score of the day. Kai boasted of ending the round with five birdies, and members in Palm Beach have hinted that she is talented and committed enough to potentially secure a college scholarship.
