Adam Hadwin had a heartwarming reunion with the security guard who famously tackled him at last year’s Canadian Open. The pair were involved in one of 2023’s most unforgettable golfing moments.
PGA Tour star Hadwin was caught up in the excitement as his close friend Nick Taylor secured victory over Tommy Fleetwood at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, forgetting to carry his credentials while rushing to celebrate with a bottle of champagne.
This led to a swift takedown by an alert security guard. Fast forward a year and all has been forgiven, with Hadwin letting bygones be bygones as they met face-to-face for the first time since in the car park this week, reports the Mirror.
“I rolled down my window,” he explained to TNS, doing a double take when seeing a familiar face. “As soon as he recognised me, we both had huge smiles on our faces. I’ve said this from the beginning. I wasn’t hurt, I didn’t have any effects from it.
“I certainly don’t blame him. It was just one of those incidents. We shook hands, shared a few laughs and I got him to pose for a picture with me.”
Hadwin has since posted a selfie with the guard on social media, humorously displaying his credentials to avoid any further confusion, captioning it: “Water under the bridge!”

The security guard also commented on their past encounter for the first time, preferring to stay out of the spotlight and remain anoymous despite being willing to take a photo with Hadwin.
“I remember everything vividly,” he told TNS. “Just like it was yesterday. I was on the other side of Nick and his caddie, which meant I had to come around him. There were a lot of people moving and I saw this person heading directly towards Nick.

“I saw it as if it was in slow motion, this guy coming towards Nick with a bottle and no credentials. It was a soft takedown. His feet never left the ground.”
Canadian golfers Hadwin and Taylor seem unlikely to be repeating their celebrations this year. Both concluded Thursday’s first round two over par, trailing 10 shots behind the English frontrunner David Skinns.
