Deadpool and Wolverine: Hugh Jackman stars in Marvel trailerIt was one of the biggest shock moments out of Deadpool and Wolverine’s string of amazing cameos.

As Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth traversed the Marvel multiverse in search of a Logan variant to team up with, one particularly muscular one caught his eye.

Turning around from revving his motorbike, while smoking a cigar, was none other than Superman star Henry Cavill in a Wolverine variant.

Now the DC legend has shared a snap of his cameo, captioning it: “To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache.”

Fans will know this is a reference to him not being able to shave off his Mission: Impossible – Fallout tash for Justice League reshoots.

As a result, Joss Whedon’s original cut of the film features Cavill’s Superman with a dodgy CGI upper lip that just didn’t look right and was widely mocked online.

As for how his Wolverine cameo came about, director Shawn Levy has spilt the beans in a new interview.

Variety asked Levy: “How quickly did Henry Cavill say ‘yes’ to appearing as a Wolverine variant?”

He replied: “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined. I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term. He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”
