Gareth Southgate is expected to make some radical changes to his England line-up for tomorrow’s quarter-final showdown with Switzerland. A place in the last four will await the Three Lions if they can get the job done, with the Netherlands or Turkey their potential opponents.

It has been widely reported that Southgate will switch to a back three, with Ezri Konsa set to partner Kyle Walker and John Stones in defence. Marc Guehi would usually feature but is suspended for one game following his yellow card against Slovakia last time out.

The quarter-finals will begin this evening after a two-day break, with hosts Germany set to face Spain in a blockbuster clash in Stuttgart. The other match will see Cristiano Ronaldo go head-to-head with Kylian Mbappe as Portugal take on France.

ICYMI: Luke Shaw fit to face SwitzerlandLuke Shaw is yet to play a single minute at the Euros but could finally return to action this weekend.

According to The Telegraph, he has been taking part in full training and could be involved against Switzerland in tomorrow’s quarter-final showdown.

Gareth Southgate offered an encouraging update on Shaw’s fitness levels after leaving him as an unused substitute against Slovakia.

Asked if he would be available to face Switzerland, the England boss said: “Yeah, I think that he’s got a chance.

“I mean, we could have put him on, but he has done so little full team training that would been a huge risk.

“A bit more training and a little bit more evidence for us of the level he is at would be helpful.”

Germany ace hits back at Harry Kane criticsGermany playmaker Jamal Musiala has insisted that Harry Kane is ‘one of the best’ despite the criticism aimed at the England skipper in recent weeks.

Musiala, who plays alongside Kane for Bayern Munich, said: “The last goal he scored was a typical striker’s goal. Not many players would have been in the position to score that goal.

“He’s there for those moments. He may not get many chances, but when he gets that one chance, he can decide the game for his team.

“We have all seen what he has done for us at Bayern this season. He is an important player, an incredible player, one of the best in the world.

“That’s why we have him at Bayern and that’s why he is one of the most important players for England.”

Spain boss considers drastic plan to stop GermanySpain boss Luis de la Fuente has joked that he is considering a drastic plan to stop Germany midfield maestro Toni Kroos.

“Kroos is world class, a footballer of a brutal level,” he said in yesterday’s press conference.

“Football doesn’t leave these players, they leave football. The confidence that he transmits has been very good for Germany.

“It is a pity that he wanted to leave football because I would love to continue watching him play.

“We had thought about tying Kroos’ feet, but I don’t know if UEFA will let me! We know what Kroos is like.

“We’ll try to make sure he doesn’t have a chance to receive easily and limit his passing options. We’ll appeal to UEFA to see if they’ll let us tie him down!”

Conor Gallagher opens up on half-time subConor Gallagher has admitted that he felt the pain of being substituted at half-time during England’s narrow victory over Slovakia last weekend.

Speaking in yesterday’s press conference, he said: “Obviously, it is not nice and you want to play as much as possible.

“Getting an opportunity to start a game for England at a major tournament is incredible and I was really excited.

“But it was a really difficult game, I don’t think we were playing particularly great. We weren’t really creating any chances.

“I understand the manager wanted to change a couple of things tactically and bringing on Kobbie [Mainoo] to come a little deeper and pick up the ball, completely understandable.

“What is great about the manager is that he came and told me before he told the team so I knew and it was fine.”

Gareth Southgate taking ‘gigantic risk’Gareth Southgate is taking a ‘gigantic risk’ by switching to a back three for tomorrow’s game against Switzerland, according to Chris Sutton.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Sutton wrote: “Southgate may be confident that if we switch our system to counteract the Swiss, we can beat them man-for-man.

“While it’s fine to be flexible, I would still rather see us impose our style on Switzerland.

“Southgate has taken chances at these Euros which haven’t exactly gone to plan, first by taking the injured Luke Shaw, then by using Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

“After 99 games in charge, Southgate may need to nail Saturday’s set-up to avoid making it 100 and out. For me, sticking with a back four is the best way.”
