PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf agree shock mergerLIV Golf returns this week, as Greenbrier plays host to the breakaway circuit for the very first time. Once a regular PGA Tour host course, Greenbrier now welcomes its LIV Golf rivals for the Saudi-backed league’s 10th tournament of the 2023 season.
A number of LIV stars have enjoyed past success on the West Virginia course, with Danny Lee, Joaquin Niemann, and Kevin Na all winners of the Greenbrier Classic during their time on the PGA Tour. Ahead of the event, past winner Na was quizzed on what it takes to win around the course.
He responded: “I think you’ve just got to play well. You’ve got to do everything well. You see Angel [Cabrera] as one of the winners (in 2014) is a bomber. Xander [Schauffele, who won in 2017] is obviously a solid ball striker. Him, he’s a bomber and does everything well.
“I’m a little bit of a shorter hitter but a great short game. Danny does everything well. I think it doesn’t suit one kind of player. I can tell you that it doesn’t just favor the bombers, which I think is great.
“I think when you have a golf course that all different kinds of players can win, it tells you it’s a great golf course.” Ahead of the 54-hole tournament which kicks off on Friday, here is everything you need to know.
