Tottenham have been urged to show a statement of intent by sealing a deal to sign Wolves star Pedro Neto this summer ahead of north London rivals Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has been linked with the Gunners for the best part of two years after emerging as a creative force for Gary O’Neil’s side, with Mikel Arteta a keen admirer of his talents.

Wolves have reportedly slapped a £60million price tag on Neto, who scored two goals and assisted nine in 20 Premier League appearances last season despite being plagued by injury.

Former Spurs striker Robbie Keane has identified the left-footed winger as a priority signing for Ange Postecoglou this summer, with the Irishman urging the north London club to sign the Portugal international Neto “straight away” along with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

“Tottenham have been linked with Pedro Neto, who I would sign straight away,” Keane said, speaking to Betway. “And Eberechi Eze, who I said they should sign four years ago, I think he’s a real Tottenham player.

“They are both really exciting players and I think the fans would be very happy if they got both of them.”

Postecoglou made a number of smart moves in the transfer market last year, bringing in Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, and the trio attracted their share of the plaudits in the first half of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Australian has continued that trend by spending £40m this summer to snap up 18-year-old sensation Archie Gray from Leeds United, another one of Keane’s former clubs.

However, Spurs are yet to directly replace their former talisman Harry Kane, who made his £88million transfer to Bayern Munich in 2023, with Postecoglou instead signing forward Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

And Keane thinks Spurs are a striker short of competing with the Premier League’s elite clubs: “I’d like to see Tottenham up there with the leaders but they certainly need a few more players,” he added.

“If you look around world football at the moment, you don’t see a lot of out-and-out No. 9s like Erling Haaland, or someone like Fernando Torres. I think Spurs still need a player like that.

“I hope Richarlison comes back fit and ready to go, but I think they need another one to keep their attacking players on their toes. Of course, it depends who is out there, and to get one they might have to start spending big money, given how the market is.”
