Dune Prequel Prophecy Announces Release Date Window As New Teaser Trailer Drops

Dune: Prophecy – Official teaser trailerIt has been confirmed that Dune: Prophecy will be arriving on Sky and NOW this autumn, meaning fans will be able to watch the exciting new prequel before the end of 2024. Following the popularity of Dune: Part Two earlier this year, the upcoming spin-off TV series is bound to have a huge audience draw.

The epic six-episode season will star BAFTA nominee Emily Watson, as well as Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May and Mark Strong. Ahead of its debut later this year, Sky has shared a chilling new teaser trailer to mark the exciting update.

While we don’t know the exact release date at this stage, UK fans can be assured that they will only have to wait a few more months before seeing the Imperium in its earlier stages. The show is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, which was written by Frank Hebert’s son Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.

The official plot synopsis reads: “From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.”

In the minute-long teaser, we see some of the characters who will be starring in the series, which focuses on the creation of the iconic Bene Gesserit sisterhood. The sinister trailer teases various power struggles and ends with the chilling words: “Sacrifices must be made”.

The series is a prequel set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, who is portrayed by Timothee Chalamet in the films.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes ahead of Dune 2’s launch, director Denis Villeneuve explained how he planned to honour original author Frank Herbert’s legacy with any changes he made.

“It’s a true adaptation in the sense that it’s like my take on the book,” he said. “And there are strong decisions that were made in order to bring this adaptation to the screen – these decisions have been made in order to be faithful to Frank Herbert.

“So in some strange way, my goal was to be faithful to Monsieur Herbert and less to the book, more to Frank’s vision.”

He also said he was “absolutely confident” in the changes that he had made and insisted there had been “no hesitation” from him and co-writer Jon Spaihts when deciding what to take out and add in.

Dune: Prophecy is coming to Sky and NOW TV this autumn, 2024.
