Helmut Marko has hinted that Arvid Lindblad is in consideration for an F1 seat moving forward after the 16-year-old managed a clean sweep of the Formula Three weekend at Silverstone.

The London-born racer clocked up his third and fourth victories of the season at the British Grand Prix to close within six points of championship leader and Alpine junior driver Gabriele Mini. Those performances have put him on the radar of Marko and the Red Bull team, who are trying to work out their driver line-up puzzle heading into the summer break.

As things stand, Sergio Perez is looking destined for a mid-season departure, while Daniel Ricciardo – who may or may not replace the Mexican racer – is almost certainly in the final six months of his time with the VCARB team.

Should Lindblad continue on his current trajectory, he will put himself in the conversation for a VCARB seat in the coming years. The 16-year-old turns 17 in early August, and this would allow Red Bull to offer him some FP1 outings or even put him in a car full-time, should they desire as much.

Writing about the teenager in his Speedweek column, Marko noted: “Arvid Lindblad shone in Formula 3. He was a rookie who went straight from Formula 4 to Formula 3 and won both races. He is only 16 years old and we are delighted that he can now drive in Formula 1 again at 17.

“But we are staying calm and continuing to produce good results with our juniors, who are now being given more priority and are allowed to keep pushing in the Formula 1 car. Isack did well in his most recent test. He never had the soft tyres on his car, but he showed strong performances and his comments were good too.

“It is also no secret that Liam Lawson will be doing a day of filming for us. Isack and Arvid have great qualities, they are super fast and have Formula 1 quality. And we must not forget Ayumu Iwasa, who is currently in second place in the Super Formula in Japan.”

For Marko, there will be plenty of thinking to do before the summer break. Perez has two races remaining to impress the Austrian and team principal Christian Horner before potentially setting off a domino effect that will have ramifications for all Red Bull-affiliated drivers.

“We still hope that Sergio Perez will find his form again,” Marko added. “We will evaluate the situation after the next two races in the summer break and then we will see.”
